How To: Keep Up With All Of Our Newest Ideas And Art

Since this isn't my calling anymore, I don't spend as much time as I used to promoting my materials.  That means it's more difficult for me to let you know when I've got new art out.  In order to keep up with all of the latest developments, I suggest that you follow me on Pinterest and Facebook.  That way you'll never miss out on a new idea! Find links at the bottom of the right-side column.

Activity: 2014 Song Swat

I posted this activity last year to get ready for the primary program.  We had great success with it and received loads of positive feedback.  The idea is to help children perfect phrases within the program songs with which the children tend to have difficulty.

Activity: Now We Know Our Primary Songs

To encourage the kids to master the program songs for this year, tell them that you are going to write a song.  On a piece of poster board or large paper, draw a musical staff- five parallel horizontal lines 3" apart.  You can add the treble clef (the symbol on the left) if you like, but it's not necessary.

{Sharing Time} I Become A Member Of The Church Through Baptism And Comfirmation

Sharing Time Ideas from 2014 Primary OutlineIDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE(seeing pictures): Pretend to be a reporter. Tell the children, “Welcome to the Good News Network! Today I have the greatest news to report to you—each one of you can become a member of the true Church of Jesus Christ! This is one of the most important things you can do in your life. You become a member of the Church through baptism (show a picture of a child being baptized) and confirmation (show a picture of a child being confirmed).”

Lesson Plans: July 2014

  • For the first time since I started blogging, I have chosen not to illustrate the monthly song, "Baptism."  I didn't feel that I could create original clipart that would be reverent enough for the subject matter.  In addition, as I tried to think of a unique way to teach this song, I had a "stupor of thought"-or, in other words, I kept coming back to the same idea.

Activity: Still Small Voice Chain

This activity is particularly useful in reviewing songs about the Holy Ghost, Prophets, or Scriptures.  Explain that the activity shows that a message can be distorted as it is passed from person to person.  That is why it is important to have a direct line from Heavenly Father to ourselves.  We can find this direct line through the Holy Ghost, the Prophet and even the Scriptures.  When we seek guidance from these sources, we can be sure that the answers we receive have not been misinterpreted or mistranslated by others.

Baptism

As I am sure you know, this month's song is "Baptism".  Most of your kiddos should at least be familiar with it.  Last time it was a program song, this is how I introduced it & it worked really well.  This activity works well for reviewing the song also.

Pioneer Day Singing Time Cake Walk With Pioneer Children

Well Pioneer Day is this week, so I was thinking of some fun things you could do!  I found a cute thing I still think would be fun for next week. The kids will do something with their families on Pioneer Day if they live in the U.S. We always celebrated it when our kids were growing up in California. If they live in Utah for SURE they will celebrate with a rodeo or a parade or something fun like that.

Practice: Ribbon Wands

Dancing with ribbon wands is a great way to help children practice a song many times without realizing that they are working.  They are best used with slow songs (like Baptism) but can also be fun with patriotic songs.

Activity: Fireworks

I created this activity to quickly review a lot of program songs on American Independence Day, July 4, but it could be used for several different holidays or just for fun.
To prepare the game, print the document below and cut around each firework in a simple circle.  Write the name and page number of a song you'd like to review onto the back of each circle.  Let the children take turns choosing a firework.  Add the firework to the board and sing the song.

{Sharing Time} Priesthood Spin: 5Th Sunday Review Game

Sunday is a 5th Sunday. In our ward the YM/YW usually teach Sharing Time, so that the primary workers can go to the 5th Sunday lesson. This time the YM are in charge, and since my husband happens to be the YM’s President, guess who gets to prepare the Sharing Time lesson....ME!
I decided to keep it simple and do a review of this month’s Sharing Time lessons, but add a fun twist.Today I am sharing a game I’m calling ‘Priesthood Spin’.
