Christmas Passed, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future

Our Primary has been asked to sing 5 songs at our ward Christmas party next Saturday night. Because we have just finished reading the Book of Mormon in 90 days as a ward, (I did it! Yessss!) its sort of a culmination of celebrating Christ's birth and the Book of Mormon, and Christ in the Book of Mormon. So we have been asked to sing these 5 songs:

Samuel Tells of the Baby Jesus
When Joseph Went to Bethelehem
Picture a Christmas
Scripture Power
Teach Me About the Temple

Christmas in Nauvoo Food / Ideas

From Mary K. Stout, “From a Nauvoo Pantry,” New Era, Dec 1973, 42

Christmas in Nauvoo was not celebrated in our traditional gift-giving manner, nor was it a particularly festive occasion. It would be many years before English immigrants would introduce carols, yule logs, and presents into the Puritan tradition of members of the Church.

...

The first recorded glimpse of a celebration is written on Christmas 1843 by the Prophet Joseph Smith. The entry marks a new outlook among Mormons toward the day:

Give the Savior a Christmas Gift - FHE

Give the Savior a Christmas Gift -- of your service -- for Christmas this year.

The premise of this cute idea is simple. Christmas is about the Savior, and since we can't give him a tangible "present" when we celebrate his birthday in December, how about we offer him the gift of extra service?

You'll need:
- a poster board or piece of heavy paper,
- a pen or pencil for each family member,
- a set of scriptures for each family member, and
- a bunch of small stickers (the dot kind work well).

Jenny's Super Simple LDS Chistmas Script

I wrote this script to be used as a base for planning LDS Christmas programs. This contains the text of the Christmas story from Luke and Matthew, directly from the scriptures. It also has suggested hymns and songs to be sung in each section.

Read the text, and then chose songs you like or that your pianist/organist can play. If you don't have time to present the entire thing, just

A Night in Bethlehem - with Pictures

Treat the members of your ward to a trip back in time! Visit "Bethlehem" on the evening Jesus Christ was born. A Night in Bethlehem is a fun activity idea that includes invitation wording, a skit, and food like the Savior may have eaten. It's a big logistical undertaking, but the payoff is great!

The year I did Night in Bethlehem activity, FOUR other units in the Stake did the same activity! I got pictures from many of them and ideas from others and have shared them below.
