Christmas Day 2011

"MERRY CHRISTMAS, even if it is late.Christmas morning we went to church at 8:30am. Then we came home and opened a few presents. We took a break while my brothers' went to their ward. The girls were so adorable in their plaid taffeta Christmas dresses.Happy birthday Uncle Rex. As the norm we had a birthday/ holiday gathering for Rex and for Grandmother Dorothy. My parents had a full house. Lots of family and many more friends.  Rex is such a popular kid and every year his Christmas Night Birthday party is very well attended.Merry Christmas"

The trouble with only singing program songs.....is that you don't know any songs.

"Today I was going through my files looking through old things and organizing visual aids.  I didn't realize how much I had, but after 4 years it kind of makes sense.  I found a list of songs from 2008 when I was first put in.  There were about 15 songs on it that the kids in primary knew.  Mostly they were program songs, but there was also the snowman song, a birthday song and Hello!  They really didn't know any songs!  They had had four leaders over the previous year who spent the whole 15-20 minutes every Sunday only teaching and reviewing program songs....

Christmas Eve

" We tried to act out the Christmas Pageant. We thought the children were old enough to do it simply. It didn't last long. Their attention span lasted about 3 verses. "

Song Review - "As a Child of God"

"For old times sake, I thought I would share with you all what I did to review “As a Child of God.”  I put the phrase pictures up on the board and asked a child to leave the room. I asked another child to choose one of the pictures to remove. We shuffled the remaining pictures around a bit to make it harder to spot, but if the guessing child is young, you may want to leave the pictures as they were. When the child came back into the room, we sang the song again to help them discover which picture was missing. Naturally, I asked the child to give the answer in the exact words of the song...

Framed it

"When we were married my husband told me we wanted this map from his Grandpa in IA.Its not as old as it looks. Its circa 1967.In Feb 2009 we brought it home from IA with us.In September I took it to a framing place and had it framed.I wanted a frame that made the whole thing look older. Old looking framesare not cheap. But I figured that it was going to go up in our home formany years, making sure the quality we wanted was there. In December I finally got it up on our wall."

Sharing Time 2012-January Week 5 idea-The Plan of Salvation

" source: itstimeforsharing.wordpress.com In an area training last year, Sister Jean Stevens counseled primary leaders in that region to focus on the plan of salvation. Cheryl’s ward did a 5th Sunday about the plan of salvation and put these large visual aids on the wall in their primary room, and now refer to them during most other sharing time lessons. They based their lesson on a simplified version the Plan of Salvation lesson from Preach my Gospel (leaving out references to paradise/spirit prison and judgment). My sister recently taught a similar lesson in her ward."

Temple Lights

"For FHE on the Monday after Thanksgiving we went to see the Mesa Temple Lights as a whole family. It was cold. We made sure we each had a coat and we went out to participate in a holiday tradition. Our children were all thrilled to be around so many Christmas Lights. I learned that all my hard work trying to teach my son colors hasn't been in vain. He was pointing out all the colors and telling me what color lights they were."

February 2012 Sharing Time: Choose to Obey

" by Shauna Gibby source: MormonLife.com Mormon Life says: This sharing time will help the children learn about the blessings they receive when they choose the right. Preparation: Obtain a bean bag and two buckets or baskets. Label one bucket, “YES” and the other bucket, “NO.” Presentation: Explain to the children that commandments are the rules or laws that Heavenly Father wants us to live by. We find the commandments in the scriptures, or by listening to the prophet. We show our love for Jesus Christ by obeying the commandments. When we obey the commandments the...

February 2012 LDS Primary Sharing Time Ideas and Helps

"Sorry, I have no actual source for this image. And I wouldn't recommend showing this in Primary although my children were amused by it. But my children also sing Pink Floyd's Another brick in the wall to themselves while playing so perhaps we're just weirdos.Monthly Theme: When We Choose the Right, We Are Blessed Monthly Scripture: "If ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you" Mosiah 2:22Did you notice this quote for the month in the sharing time outline from Elder Boyd K. Packer: Children can learn through fun activities and movement and still maintain an...

To Decorate or Not to Decorate

"Since we were going to my parents I wasn't going to decorate. Then I realized that, if we didn't decorate our tree my son wouldn't get to decorate a tree this year. I felt guilty denying him of this holiday activity. I gave in and put up the top 2/3of our Christmas tree. I didn't put any of our decorations on the tree thatare even sightly breakable. Al really enjoyed himself putting it up.He wanted to put more and more and more on the tree.I had to stop him and put away the rest of theornaments so he couldn't put more on the tree."

Proud Grandparents

"We've been spending a lot of time up with my parents. These pictures were taken Nov 20th.My parents are so happy being grandparents of twins. They love their girls so much. They love all their grandchildren.Every time we leave to go back home, they are asking when are we coming back."

Bring an Ancestor to Activity Days!

"This week we are going to talk about family history.  I thought it would be fun to have the girls think about it in advance so I made this invitation.  The font is kind of hard to read, but basically they are going to "bring along an ancestor" by learning a story about, or dressing up as, or bringing an item that belonged to an ancestor of theirs.  I thought I would start with a 5 minute lesson on why we do family history work and why it is so important.  Then we will be taking turns introducing our ancestors to each other.  This will probably take most of the...

Fall Fair

" My nephew's school was having a fund raiser fall fair. They do it every year. This is his first year at the school and our first time going. It was before Thanksgiving, I'm still playing catch up on my blog postsGrandpa and Grandma came too. The biggest hit of the fall fair was the "train" cars ride and the balloon swords. "

Valentines - Soap & Scriptures

"Last year we had a very fun activity. The girls made heart shaped soap (imprinted), then had a "Love" scripture search and made cards. Glycerin soap, alcohol, water, scents, dies, mold. Simply melt & pour! I have metal stamps that we used to imprint "Love" and other words. While we waited for the soaps to set up we did a scripture search. I found this great idea from SugarDoodle for searching for "heart". They loved it! Then we made up some simple cards. I usually have a sample or two for them to follow. It helps them create ideas off it. ...and I don't know why this photo won't rotate...

Anonymous's picture

We are talking about the gospel being spread throughoout the world. During sharing time, I ate M&M's in front of the kids and apologized, telling them that I hadn't eaten breakfast. Obviously towards the end (less time in JR) I drew the analogy of how important it is to share the gospel with our friends. I had little bags from hobby lobbly filled with 5 M&Ms.
